Some of those controversial gates at Bid-a-Wee beach accesses are getting some additions. Workers have installed chain link panels on either side of 3-of the access gates. They are apparently there to keep non-residents from climbing around the gates.
Bid a Wee Beach Park President Jim Smith installed the gates earlier this year, claiming visitors were vandalizing the area and leaving lots of trash.
That set off a battle between Bid-a-Wee and Bay County commissioners over public accesses. But commissioners dropped the issue after the county attorney told the accesses were not public.
Because the public does not have access to Bid-a-Wee, the county is leaving it out of the current beach renourishment project.
